The ten Wellathlon Disciplines or games are based on Dr. Bill Hettler’s (Co-founder of the National Wellness Institute) notion of the six “dimensions of wellness”. These were expanded to ten dimensions in keeping with the spirit of the decathlon challenge. No claim is made about the scientific or academic validity of ten dimensions of wellness. They could be more or less. The premise for the purposes of the Wellathlon Challenge is that the balanced fulfillment of all ten game requirements or the achievement of symmetry with regard to the fulfillment of ones needs in these ten life challenge areas will not only contribute to the health, wealth and happiness of practitioners, but will also catapult them into the proverbial “google societal top rank” or top percentile of the most successful people in any community as affirmed by Harvard University Professor Dr. Ned Hallowell.
Whole Vocation Game
The Whole Vocation Game is about discovering and pursuing our intrinsic life purpose. Whether we agree or not all religious and cultural traditions share the belief that We all come into being for a specific reason, i.e. to fulfil a need, purpose, calling or vocation. We are therefore not accidents of circumstances. Deeply satisfying happiness can and will only come from knowing, pursuing and becoming one (whole) with our respective intrinsic life purposes. As the Chinese saying goes, “When we do things we love, we do not perceive it as work”. One”s life legacy is in direct correlation to which one leverages the 24/7/365 time resource given in equal measure to all irrespective of race, colour, creed or social status to realise ones life purpose. Some leave greater legacies than others in the time they were privileged to grace the world of the living. The Whole Vocation Game teaches RITES to discover and pursue ones intrinsic purpose.
Whole Systems Game
According to Wikepedia systems are “an assemblage of inter-related elements comprising a unified whole. In Latin and Greek, the term means “to combine, to set-up, to place together. A sub-system is a system, which is part of another system. It typically consists of internal and external components (or elements) which interact with each other to facilitate the flow of information, matter or energy etc to sustain the balance between the whole and the sub-system”. Each vocation or life purpose represents similarly a “system” which requires the fulfillment of certain specific conditions, circumstances and structures. These systems and processes are sine qua non preconditions for its realization. The aim of the Whole System Game is to gain the necessary knowledge about the purpose, elements and processes underlying the vocation of each practitioner in order to master the competencies, skills and intelligence needed to leverage such systems and processes for ones own higher purpose and that of all concerned. The whole systems game teaches RITES to identify and leverage systems conditions and structures to realize ones life purpose.
Whole Mind Game
The mind, the brain and the neurophysiology are the tools which guide the visible and invisible human
system elements to create the conditions and structures necessary for the fulfillment of our life purposes. It is the deep understanding of the unlimited potential of the human, brain and neuro-system which brought all enlightened geniuses past and present to conclude that the only poverty is the poverty of the mind. As the famous saying attributed to Budda states “What we are today comes from thoughts of yesterday and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow. Our life is the creation of our mind”. Buddha. The Whole Mind Game teaches RITES to exploit ones full mind potential to be in symmetry with ones intrinsic life purpose.
Whole Solution Game
Most IQ tests used to this day are based on the assumption that intelligence or ones ability to solve life challenges is a matter of genetics. Harvard’s Howard Gardner debunks that myth with his theory of “multiple intelligences” which states that each person has a preferred learning style. This confirms the 3 millennia old assertion of Aristotle and Galileo that that we cannot teach anyone anything only draw out the knowledge they already have within them. Intelligence is the mastery and leveraging of all thinking styles to arrive at solutions addressing all the interdependent and inter-related needs of systems at all levels. Begger my neighbour solutions solving one challenge whilst exacerbating others are no longer acceptable as proven by the present industrial model pursued for too long at the expense of the environment vital to our long-term health. The whole solutions game teaches RITES to never settle for anything less than the highest common denominator.
Whole Observer Game
Spirituality is often misunderstood because of its narrow association with religion or life philosophies based on religious doctrines. But spirituality or the practice of routine and sustained reflection upon and seeing things from a higher detached perspective is essential for anyone independent of the life philosophy doctrine one espouses. It allows us to see any challenge in the context of the big picture of our respective intrinsic life purposes. Whatever name tag we choose to attach to that spiritual/metaphysical reflection process (prayer, medidation, yoga or scientific research), it is clear that it has breakthough beneficial impact for its practitioners. Medical and social scholars agree that aspects of spiritual wellness such as hope, meaning, purpose in life, connectedness, honesty, compassion, forgiveness, rituals, recognition of what is held to be sacred, and transcendent beliefs/experiences that may include a sense of a higher power have as much an impact on ones wellness as do aspects related to physical wellness. The whole observer game teaches RITES to life events from a higher perspective.
Whole Health Game
No one contests Ralph Waldo Emerson’s contention that”the first wealth is health”. But do we follow it?. The Whole Health Game is based on the premise that the human body is resilient and always perpetually to restore balance to the dafault perfect health status through natural bodily processes. The aim of the game is to understand and reinforce these processes through lifestyle routines and practices which proactively triggers systems actions to nourish, irrigate, oxygenate, energize, detoxify and induce healing in the human life vessel to limit entropy. The less than optimal utilisation of the human life vessel like any mechanical system reduces its lifespan in direct relation corelation to the care taken to reduce such entropy. The whole wealth game teaches RITES to internalize resourceful lifestyle practices and choices.
Whole Emotion Game
How well we learn to cope with fear, anger, grief and guilt determines how well we will deal with situations in life that invoke such feelings. As Maslov said “if the only thing you have in your toolbox is a hammer, every problem you are faced with will resemble a nail”. As humans we have access to and can use the entire panoply of emotions at our disposal. However, like in other life disciplines we are too often prisoners of our desire to clutch on to only the known pleasurable stimuli and shut ourselves off from other potentailly greater possibilities. Emotional intelligence is the routine proactive leveraging of resourceful beliefs & emotional states to fuel the realization of our respective vocations. The whole emotion game teaches RITES to master and leverage ones emotions in resourceful ways.
Whole Bonding Game
Social Wellness has to do with the ability to forge deep personally gratifying relations with siblings, parents, relatives, friends and collegues. It deals with inter-personal skill sets (empathy, consideration, sensitivity, helpfulness etc) and cross-cultural knowledge (decoding verbal and non-verbal communications) needed to leverage relations with family, relatives, friends, colleagues and partners in resourceful ways for the highest good of self and all concerned. Social intelligence is the routine proactive leveraging of bonding competencies, skills & processes that strengthen the affinity and cohesion of our relations to family, spouses, business partners, friends & colleagues. the whole bonding game teaches RITES to master the skill sets needed to forge deep bonds with siblings, parents, relatives, friends and colleagues.
Whole Wealth Game
Irrespective of the vocation one chooses to pursue in life, according Robert Kiyosaki,
material wellness or the ability to afford ones upkeep and that of those depending on us for it, can be achieved through any one of four quadrants, namely as (1) an employee, (2) a self-employed professional, (3) a business owner and (4) and investor. Wealth is surplus income accumulated when ones earnings exceeds ones present and future need fulfillment requirements inclusive of those of ones dependents. Material Intelligence is the routine proactive leveraging of systems & processes to satisfy the needs and wants of others in exchange for income. The extend to which one accumulates wealth is in direct relationship to the needs of the numbers of clients one satisfies. The whole wealth game teaches RITES to generate, grow and preserve income to provide for ones upkeep and that of those under our care.
Whole Ecology Game
Environmental Wellness has to do with the spatial environment we live in and are exposed to during each of our life cycle phases and the impact it has on our well-being. That spatial environment starts with the baby cot, our initial world at birth and slowly expands as we become aware of the room, the house, the immediate neighbourhood, the city and so on until we eventually become aware of the immensity of the universe. Environmental intelligence is the awareness about and routine proactive leveraging of environment systems & processes in order to manage risks and guarantee sustainability of personal and collective spatial environments which sustains all life systems. The Whole Ecology Game involves the teaching of RITES like the Feng shui wellness game.
